OS

FSP Computers will use a custom version of Android OS that would have all of the basics, as well as access to Google Play Store. However, there will be some differences to note. These additions are designed to make the phone OS work more capable, and functional. All of the Google Apps will be installed. In addition, the following apps will be installed.

  • Contact Manager
  • Desktop Mode
  • Device Help
  • FSP Messenger
  • Tablet Mode
  • True Lock

Contact Manager

Contact Manager will go beyond the standard Contacts App that is typically found in an Android phone. One issue I noticed is that .vcf files are not really handled well. Contact Manager will go beyond the normal Contacts App, and do a few things. First, you would set up your Owner Profile. This will allow you to send your .vcf file to another phone via NFC. The phone’s lock screen will automatically use your information from the Contact Manager app to display contact information for returns. For example, you could select to have your True Lock Screen to show your email address. If you change your email address in your Contact Manager, then that change will show in True Lock.

You can use Contact Manager as a .vcf editor. Any contact in Contact Manager can have the information edited, and export as a .vcf file. When exporting, you’ll be able to give a filename, and the file will show in your Downloads Folder. When importing .vcf files, you would download, and Contact Manager will display the contents of the .vcf file. You can make any edits, and then save the Contact. This will allow someone to give your their contact information without you having to do anything but accept the information. If there is already a person that is in your Contact Manager, the Contact Manager will make suggestions on how to deal with that.

Desktop Mode

When plugged into a monitor, and there is a bluetooth keyboard/mouse, then the phone can enter Desktop Mode. This will allow you to use your phone as a computer, and any files created, and save document files to Google Drive since Google Docs is the only viable office suite. Any localized files can save to your micro-SDXC card if that is something that is an option. With SDXC, you can have up to 2TB for your personal files. Any file downloads will download to the Downloads folder of the SDXC card.

Depending on the role of the need, the phone might not be able to replace your computer entirely. For example, there is no known FTP client for Android. If that holds true, you would not be be able to upload files via FTP. This could still force you to rely on another actual computer. However, as Desktop Mode, you would be able to do basic productivity without the need to carry a computer as long as there are the accessories you would need.

Device Help

Device Help will be a help file program that would help walk you through any issues you might have. All help files will be in .xhtml which is basically webpages. Since the help file is online, it will always be up to date in comparison to the version of the OS? you have. You can go to the help file on the internet by going to https://OS-Version.fsp.tld. Therefore if your device is still on OS 15, then the OS 15 files will show up rather than the OS 16.

FSP Messenger

There will be a proprietary app that would give everyone that owns an FSP computer device with a unique code number. This will depend on the login credentials, so as long as you are using the same UID as the other device – all devices can be used to send off the message. This unique code number will be how others will be able to communicate with you. All messages are end-end encrypted, and the only thing that FSP Comptuers can know is which ID you communicated with, but nothing else beyond that little essential bit of information. FSP Messenger Service must know where the message goes to, right? If there becomes some popularity for the service, this should encourage those to buy into an FSP system. Depending on whether FSP Messenger can support RCS? or not will depend on whether there will need to be a separate messaging app for SMS? and RCS. If FSP Messenger can take on the role of the standard messenger, then the following will show in collors:

  • FSP Messenger: Blue
  • RCS: Red
  • SMS: Green

Tablet Mode

There will be a tablet screen accessory. When the handheld plugs into this accessory, the device will go into Tablet Mode which will notify each app that it is installed into a tablet. This will allow better integration, and more functionality without the need to actually purchase a tablet. The tablet screen will be either 11″ or 13.3″ which should give a fully capable size screen – therefore offering the capabilities one would expect.

True Lock

Assuming you have an Android Wear Watch will depend on whether this feature is available. The idea is the phone will enter True Lock Mode when the device can not detect the connected watch, or that watch is locked. When someone selects the side button, they will see a message that might say to return to owner – call secondary-phone-number, or write to email?. True Lock will get the secondary phone number, and email address from the owner’s profile in the Contact Manager. There will also be a PIN that would be required to unlock the phone. A duress PIN will wipe the phone’s information, and bring it to the original state.

The only outgoing call that can be made is to that secondary phone number. The only incoming calls that will ring are those already in the contact manager. This basically makes the device useless except to return it to the owner of the device.
